UFC Heavyweight Alexander Volkov Frustrated with Jon Jones

UFC heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov has voiced his frustration over the delayed title fight between Jon Jones and interim champion Tom Aspinall. Volkov, currently ranked No. 3 in the division, believes that Jones is holding up the title picture, preventing other fighters from getting their shot at the championship.

Jones won the vacant heavyweight title by submitting Ciryl Gane in the first round at UFC 285 in March 2023. However, he did not defend his title until UFC 309 in November 2024, where he defeated Stipe Miocic, a matchup that was widely criticized due to Miocic’s inactivity since 2020.

Volkov expressed his frustration in an interview, stating that the delay in scheduling the Jones-Aspinall fight is negatively impacting his chances of earning a title shot. He pointed out that other weight classes have a steady flow of fights, while the heavyweight division remains stagnant due to Jones’ prolonged absence.

Despite his disappointment, Volkov acknowledged that Jones is in a position where he can dictate his own schedule. He also questioned why the UFC continues to accommodate Jones, allowing him to delay fights while other contenders wait for opportunities.

UFC CEO Dana White has assured fans that the Jones vs. Aspinall fight will happen soon, but Jones’ social media activity suggests he may be closer to retirement than preparing for another bout.

Volkov, who recently lost a split decision to Gane at UFC 310, hopes the situation clears up soon so he can understand what he needs to do to earn a title shot. Until then, he remains frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding the heavyweight division.
