Kyle Larson’s Attempt at the Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 ‘Double’ Ends in Disappointment

Kyle Larson’s ambitious bid to complete the Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 ‘Double’ came to an unfortunate end after he crashed out of the Indianapolis 500 on Lap 91. The NASCAR star had hoped to become only the second driver in history to complete all 1,100 miles of both races in a single day.

A Tough Indy 500 for Larson

Starting 19th in the Indy 500, Larson faced challenges early on, including stalling his car on pit lane during a Lap 25 stop. As the race progressed, he struggled in traffic and ultimately spun out in Turn 2, collecting Sting Ray Robb and Kyffin Simpson in the crash.

Despite the setback, Larson quickly shifted his focus to the Coca-Cola 600, where he was set to start on the front row in Charlotte.

The Challenge of ‘The Double’

Larson’s attempt at the ‘Double’ was his second in as many years. His 2024 effort was derailed by a four-hour rain delay at the Indy 500, which caused him to miss the start of the Coca-Cola 600.

Only Tony Stewart has successfully completed all 1,100 miles of both races, finishing sixth at Indy and third in Charlotte in 2001.

Looking Ahead

While Larson’s Indy 500 dream ended prematurely, he remains a dominant force in NASCAR. With three Cup Series wins already in 2025, he will look to bounce back in the Coca-Cola 600 and continue his strong season.
