Gervon Dexter Dubbed Bears’ Most Underrated Player
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter has been recognized as the team's most underrated player heading into the 2025 NFL season. Despite the spotlight being on quarterback Caleb Williams and star pass rusher Montez Sweat, Dexter has quietly established himself as a key contributor on the defensive line.
Dexter, a second-round pick in 2023, had a breakout season last year, recording 51 tackles, 5 sacks, 19 QB hits, and 2 fumble recoveries. His ability to generate pressure from the interior has made him a valuable asset, especially after the Bears lost Andrew Billings to injury in November.
NFL analyst Gennaro Filice recently named Dexter the most underrated player on the Bears roster, highlighting his strong start to the 2024 season, where he recorded four sacks and 10 QB hits in the first five games. However, his production dipped in the second half of the season, partly due to injuries and a lack of support on the defensive interior.
With the Bears reinforcing their defensive line by adding Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett in free agency and drafting Shemar Turner, Dexter is expected to take on a more versatile role under new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses could be a game-changer for Chicago’s defense, which is undergoing a transition to a more aggressive scheme.
Dexter’s continued development will be crucial for the Bears as they aim to build a dominant defensive unit. If he can maintain consistency and capitalize on his potential, he could emerge as one of the league’s top interior defenders in 2025.
