Detroit Tigers Lose Third Straight to Cleveland Guardians
The Detroit Tigers suffered their third consecutive loss, falling 7-5 to the Cleveland Guardians in extra innings at Comerica Park. Despite an early 3-0 lead, the Tigers struggled offensively, failing to record a hit between the third and tenth innings.
The Guardians tied the game in the eighth inning before exploding for four runs in the tenth, capitalizing on key hits from Kyle Manzardo, Angel Martínez, and Nolan Jones. Bo Naylor also contributed with a sacrifice fly, extending Cleveland’s lead.
Detroit attempted a late comeback, with Gleyber Torres delivering a two-run double in the bottom of the tenth, but Emmanuel Clase shut down the rally, securing the win for Cleveland.
The Tigers, now 33-20, have lost three straight for the first time since their season-opening series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their lead in the American League Central has shrunk to three games over the Guardians and Minnesota Twins.
Detroit will look to avoid a four-game sweep in Sunday’s finale, with Tarik Skubal set to face Logan Allen on the mound.
