Jaylen Brown’s Knee Injury Could Require Surgery

Jaylen Brown’s Knee Injury: Uncertainty Surrounds Possible Surgery

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is facing a pivotal offseason decision regarding his partially torn right meniscus, an injury he played through during the 2024-25 NBA season and playoffs. Brown has yet to determine whether surgery will be necessary, leaving his future on the court uncertain.

Brown sustained the injury during the Celtics’ grueling Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the New York Knicks. Despite the setback, he continued to play, averaging 22.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in the postseason. However, his explosiveness and mobility were noticeably affected, raising concerns about his long-term health.

Speaking to CelticsBlog, Brown acknowledged that he is still weighing his options. He stated, “I got a lot of doctors I gotta get evaluated with—see the potential for surgery versus no surgery, wait to speak to the [Celtics] organization. For now, it’s just rest and recovery. I’m taking a step back from a long season. Mentally, it was a lot of stuff going on.”

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens provided some optimism, noting that Brown’s knee is “in a good place structurally” and that rest could be beneficial. However, with evaluations still pending, the possibility of surgery remains on the table.

Brown’s injury adds another layer of uncertainty to Boston’s offseason. The Celtics are already dealing with the loss of Jayson Tatum, who suffered a ruptured Achilles and is expected to miss most or all of next season. With Brown’s status unclear, the team may need to make adjustments to its roster and strategy heading into the 2025-26 campaign.

As Brown continues his recovery, Celtics fans and analysts will be closely monitoring his decision. Whether he opts for surgery or rehabilitation, his health will be a critical factor in Boston’s ability to remain competitive next season.
