Jaylen Warren Set to Lead Steelers’ Backfield in 2025
Jaylen Warren is set to take on a leading role in the Pittsburgh Steelers' backfield for the 2025 NFL season. With Najee Harris signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, Warren now has the opportunity to be the team's primary running back. The Steelers have reinforced their ground game by signing Kenneth Gainwell and Trey Sermon, as well as drafting Kaleb Johnson in the third round.
Warren has been one of the most efficient running backs in the league, ranking second in explosive run rate and sixth in yards after contact since 2022. Analysts predict he could surpass 1,200 yards from scrimmage and score over 10 touchdowns this season. However, with Johnson and Gainwell in the mix, Pittsburgh may adopt a running-back-by-committee approach, rather than relying solely on Warren.
The Steelers' offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith, has built a run-heavy scheme, which should benefit Warren's playing style. If he delivers a strong season, he could secure a long-term contract extension, something Harris wasn’t granted before his departure.
